The romantic drama film We Live in Time has made its debut in cinemas today (Wednesday 1st January), with audiences already raving about the on-screen connection between stars Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh.
Told through a non-linear narrative, the movie covers three distinct timelines, following characters Tobias and Almut as they navigate marriage, parenthood, and life-altering illnesses.
Filming commenced in April 2023, taking place across South London and Surrey. The story is set in Herne Hill, which became a primary location for shooting.
Andrew, Florence, and the production team were seen filming at various locations such as Brockwell Park, the Texaco petrol station in Orpington, Herne Hill station square, and the Co-Op in Blackfen.
For those die-hard fans eager to walk in the footsteps of the characters, all these sites are accessible to the public, reports the Mirror.
Director John Crowley, in collaboration with production designer Alice Normington, aimed to capture the essence of these settings and integrate them into the fabric of the characters' lives.
Crowley shared his insights: "We talked a lot about how certain places become part of your DNA. Alice did a wonderful job working not only with the couple's various work and nesting spaces but also with the very liminal spaces that are important to the film: roads and petrol stations and convenience stores that are expressive of contemporary urban life."
The director further disclosed that the decision to set the story in Herne Hill was made with the intention to "break out of the romantic genre's usual conventions" and opt for a location that wasn't typically glamorous.
