‘Where there’s a will, there’s a way’ – Ryan Garcia sends message to Gervonta Davis after victory over Javier Fortuna

Ryan Garcia is intent on fighting Gervonta Davis before the end of the year following his impressive knockout win over Javier Fortuna.

The 23-year-old extended his professional record to 23-0 after knocking down Fortuna in the fourth and fifth rounds, finishing his opponent with a vicious flurry in the sixth in Los Angeles.

Garcia and Davis have been on collision course for much of 2022, with both fighting at lightweight and super-lightweight in recent years.

‘King Ry’ insists his next fight will once again be at 140lbs, repeating his desire for it to be against Davis.

‘I’m not going back down to 135lbs for nothing, but I will fight Tank next at 140lbs,’ Garcia said.

‘I’m going to record all the negotiations so you can’t say I’m ducking. That fight’s going to give me the respect I deserve. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.’

Following Garcia’s win on Saturday night, Davis shared a tweet reading: ‘See y’all at the end of the year’, seemingly hinting that one of the most eagerly anticipated fights in boxing will be agreed soon.

Responding to the tweet however, Garcia called for a greater statement of intent from his rival.

‘If he’s saying, ‘Seeing you in December,’ let’s make things a little bit clearer. ‘Ryan, let’s get it on. I feel like I’m very transparent with the way that I talk. I call him out, not because I’m thirsty. I call him out because that’s generally what I want to do.

‘We’ll figure it out with the teams, and we’ll make it happen. I want to do this fight for the people, and I know everybody wants this fight to happen. So I’ll be putting my whole heart to try and make this fight.’

While the Davis fight is his no1 option, Garcia also suggested former unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez as an alternative option.
