Ryan Garcia vs Gervonta Davis: Eddie Hearn breaks down 'massive' fight

Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn has explained why Ryan Garcia vs Gervonta Davis is such a big fight.

Last Saturday night, Ryan Garcia put on a boxing clinic as he outclassed former world champion Javier Fortuna to maintain his unbeaten pro record. It was the kind of performance that made a lot of purists sit up and realise that, through the smoke and mirrors of his social media presence, Ryan Garcia is the real deal.

The 23-year-old has already been able to amass a record of 23-0 and while he still has a long way to go, he’s beginning to fulfil his potential in a big way.

Many believe his next step should be to go head to head with Gervonta Davis which, based on everything we’ve seen, is the direction everything is heading in.

As a spectator, Eddie Hearn agrees that it’d be a great move for both men.

“[Ryan Garcia] Gervonta Davis is a massive fight,” Eddie Hearn said.

“It’s two different fan bases. It’s just such a great mix of styles, of personalities, narrative. I hope those guys can get it made. I really do. I think Ryan will take that fight. I don’t see why Gervonta Davis wouldn’t want to take that fight. I’m sure he thinks he beats Ryan Garcia convincingly. So hopefully, everyone involved can make that happen.”

“I don’t think it really matters [the weight]. I mean, you’re getting to a stage now where some of those fights, belts are irrelevant. And actually, Tank against Ryan Garcia, I don’t care if it’s at 136, 7,8, 9, 40. Like whatever. It’s just a really good fight. I don’t see why that fight shouldn’t be made.”
