Where does the North actually begin?

Where the North begins is a debate that has rolled on for as long as most can remember, and one that manages to draw out a huge variety of contrasting opinions.

There's often a sense of pride over what region of the country we come from, and it's one that can lead to strong disagreement over where exactly the borders lie.

It conjures up further debate over who exactly can classify themselves as a northerner or a southerner, and whether or not a middle ground between the two areas should be acknowledged.

The argument is one that pops up on the internet semi-regularly, with some Twitter users joining in the squabble over the past week and bold claims such as the North beginning in Leeds being banded about.
