When was the original Top Boy Summerhouse series released and is it linked to the new Top Boy season on Netflix?

Anyone wanting to watch Top Boy on Netflix will notice there’s two seasons of Top Boy: Summerhouse and another two seasons of Top Boy. Although the two are linked it has caused confusion among viewers.

Long before its Netflix days, Top Boy was a Channel 4 show. However, with Netflix acquiring the show, they have rebranded the first two seasons of the drama as Top Boy: Summerhouse.

Therefore Top Boy season one and two on Netflix technically is season three and four. How long has it been since the Toy Boy’s original series Summerhouse and how is it linked with the Netflix series? Here’s everything you need to know.

The original Top Boy debuted on October 31, 2011 as Top Boy. The show was picked up by Channel 4 back in 2013 before Netflix acquired the drama in 2017 after singer Drake bought the rights to Top Boy.

After a couple of years break, Top Boy season 3 was released on September 13, 2019 and although it’s the third season Netflix has billed it as season 1. The next instalment will be called Top Boy 2 when it is released on Netflix this month.

The chronological order is as follows: Top Boy: Summerhouse season 1, Top Boy: Summerhouse season 2, Top Boy season 1 and Top Boy season 2.

Although season 3 picks up where season 2 left off, Netflix went ahead and rebranded the series. Netflix has renamed the Channel 4 version of the show Summerhouse so fans can differentiate between the two - a brand new cast and crew are involved with the third installment.
