When people on Universal Credit will get second DWP cost of living payment and who is eligible

Many Universal Credit claimants all across the country will be receiving extra financial help in the coming month.

The Department for Work and Pensions announced that it will be rolling out the second half of the £650 cost of living payment to those that need it most in November. It comes after millions received the first payment of £326 last July.

However, not all claimants will be eligible for the payment due to their unique circumstances. Therefore, it's important to check whether you should expect the payment in order to adjust your finances.

Here's everything you need to know about the cost of living payment and how it may affect members of the public currently claiming Universal Credit.

You will automatically be eligible for the second payment if you were entitled to a payment - or later found to be entitled - of Universal Credit for an assessment period that ended in the period between August 26, 2022 to September 25, 2022.

You will not be eligible for the payment if your earnings reduced your Universal Credit to £0 for the qualifying assessment period - often referred to as a 'nil award'. You may also not be eligible if money has been taken off you for a variety of reasons, including payments of rent to your landlord or for money that you owe - however, this is not always the case.

If you are eligible for the second cost of living payment and receive Universal Credit, then you should expect to see the payment land in your account between November 8 and 23, 2022.

The payment will be made automatically so you don't need to apply.
