When is Manchester Marathon 2024 and how to take part as entries reopen

Hundreds of thousands of people will have found out today that they won't have made it through the ballot for the London Marathon.

Fortunately, there are other options out there to help you get your runner's high. While London may be the most popular choice, Manchester is home to the second biggest marathon event in the UK and the fourth largest in Europe.

With a long history dating back to 1908, the Manchester Marathon has become a destination for runners from all over the country who are looking to secure a personal best. There are options to either take on the full marathon in April or a half marathon October, allowing runners to take up whatever challenge they personally feel ready for.

Manchester Marathon is also a favourite for those looking for a quick time, as it is flat and fast, with the route taking participants through the buzzing city centre and out through the suburbs and back again.

Around 28,000 people take to the streets in the annual event. This year, a host of elite runners including Olympians and International athletes joined the crowds to race for a podium spot - includingOlympian Robert Mullet and 2022 second-place finisher, Naomi Mitchell. The event also raises millions of pounds for charities, including The Christie and Cancer Research UK, and the British Heart Foundation.

Next year, the Manchester Marathon will take place on Sunday, April 14.

Thousands of people have already snapped up their place in next year's marathon after entries opened up after this year's race before closing again on April 25.
