Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods will spearhead a new golf tournament with a "reimagined" virtual twist.
The TGL (Tomorrow's Golf League) was co-founded by two of the sport's biggest names and offers fans a brand new and unique experience as opposed to The Masters or The Open. But instead of facing a fairway some of the world's best will go head-to-head by striking shots against a 64 x 53 ft virtual screen. The indoor simulation tournament will still include tee boxes with real grass, fairway, rough and sand as the sport looks to expand to a new audience.
For shots from around 50 yards or less, the ball will be placed in a short-game area which includes an adjustable green. The brainchild of McIlroy and Woods came via their partnership with TMRW Sports - a company founded to produce technology-focussed ventures in sport and entertainment.

The first ever season of TGL begins at 2am UK time on Wednesday January 8. All matches will be held at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach, Florida which can fill around 1,500 spectators. The final will be held at the end of March.
The event involves six teams and 24 PGA Tour players. Three of the four players on each team will feature in each match. Teams play 15 holes each fixture, divided into two sessions, with nine holes of triples - three against three playing alternate shot - and six holes of singles golf. The tournament is a round robin format and the top four teams in the standings will advance to the semi-finals.
