When do West Brom and EFL clubs have to notify players of contract decisions?

With the season coming to a close, EFL clubs have only a couple of weeks to decide whether or not to release or retain players ahead of next season.

Some clubs in the Football League have already published their lists of retained players before the summer break, however West Bromwich Albion are yet to do so. There are difficult decisions to be made with many clubs holding extension options on contracts, whilst others have to negotiate a new contract entirely for certain players.

West Brom have already made one big contract decision by revealing that Andy Carroll will not have his contract extended beyond the end of the season. Sam Johnstone is another key player whose deal expires this summer, but is on the way out of the Hawthorns.

Elsewhere in the squad, the contracts of Romaine Sawyers, David Button, Aurio Teixeira, Owen Windsor, Zak Delaney, and Toby King all run out this year. Jake Livermore's contract did run until the summer of 2022, but BirminghamLive understands that he will be at the club until 2023 due to a clause triggered in his contract.

Clubs must notify players as to whether or not they are being retained by the third Saturday of May, which falls on May 21 this year.

Clubs involved in the play-offs following that date have until four days after their last match.

The EFL publishes the list by the second Saturday in June, which falls on June 11 this year.
