When Abuja hosted African knockout showdown

The city of Abuja buzzed recently with excitement as the African Knockout Championship (AKO5) hosted a thrilling face-off at the luxurious Abuja Continental Hotel.

In one of the face-offs, Nigeria’s powerhouse Segun Ogunnoiki squared off with Cote d’Ivoire’s formidable Yao Marcel in the middleweight category. The intensity was palpable, with the fighters promising a clash that could redefine the sport.

The co-main event featured Nigeria’s Melvin Ugochukwu and Venatius Iyinagolu. Both fighters, brimming with determination, vowed to leave their mark on the ring in pursuit of championship glory.

The event’s card is a veritable buffet of thrilling matchups. In the lightweight class, Burkina Faso’s Abdou Razac Sankara was against Nigeria’s Daniel Iwuoha, while the featherweight division saw Togo’s Kudzete Fred for a duel with the deceptively cheerful yet deadly Jackiel Ayana. The fans also witnessed Morocco’s Faout Youseff, Kenya’s James Opio, among others, in action, making AKO5 an unmissable feast of fighting prowess.

Since its inception in 2020 as a groundbreaking MMA talent reality TV show, the African Knockout (AKO) has championed African talent by brilliantly merging sports and entertainment. The inaugural season featured 14 amateur fighters living and training together for nine transformative weeks.
