What we know about Netflix's Heart of Stone movie so far as Alia Bhatt joins Gal Gadot in the cast

There are high hopes for Netflix’s new spy thriller Heart of Stone. The people behind the film believe it could lead to a female-centric spy franchise in the Mission: Impossible vein.

Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot is set to star in the main role of Rachel Stone - and she will co-produce the movie too. Jamie Dornan, star of Belfast and The Tourist, is also on board for the project - which is still in the early stages of production.

And now it has been revealed that Bollywood star Alia Bhatt has joined the cast too. The 28-year-old Indian-born British actress began acting at the age of six and has starred in several films since.

The plot to the film is being kept under wraps for the time being. So far it is being described only as a spy thriller.

It is being directed by Londoner Tom Harper, whose work includes The Aeronauts and Peaky Blinders. The script has been written by Greg Rucka and Allison Roeder.

The movie is being developed by Skydance Media, the production company behind projects such as Mission: Impossible: Fallout, The Old Guard and Annihilation. Netflix secured the rights to the movie after a competitive and heated bidding war.

No release date has been set as yet - with the film still so early in production. Gal Gadot took to Twitter to announce that production was underway yesterday - tweeting a picture of her dressed as the main character along with the caption: “Rachel Stone. Nice to meet you.”

So far, only Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan and Alia Bhatt have been confirmed as cast members. Netflix confirmed Bhatt’s participation on Twitter yesterday.

The streaming service tweeted: “Exciting News: Alia Bhatt will star alongside Gal
