What to do if your airline loses your luggage this Easter

Hundreds of thousands of Brits will be flying abroad in the coming days as families jet off for the Easter holidays. Manchester Airport alone estimates that more than 320,000 passengers will pass through the airport over the bank holiday weekend.

While flying usually goes to plan, during busy periods flying can get rather stressful. A nightmare situation for many travellers is losing their luggage and it can be devastating if you arrive at your destination without all your holiday clothes.

It can also ruin the end of your holiday if you lose it on the return journey. Although the chances of losing your luggage are slim, it can occasionally happen.

With that in mind, a travel expert has shared some advice on what to do if your luggage is unfortunately lost. Kelly Johnstone, a travel insurance expert at Staysure Travel Insurance, explains what to do if your bag is delayed or lost by an airline.

Kelly says that your airline is responsible for helping you find your luggage if you arrive at your destination without it. She said: “As soon as you realise your luggage is missing, head to the airline's baggage desk. You’ll usually find this in the baggage claims hall.

“You'll need to fill out a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) to report your delayed or lost luggage. Describe your bag and where you're staying so they can get it back to you. Don't leave the airport without this report; it helps you stay updated on your bag's status and serves as proof for any claims.
