What to do if you have booked a holiday to Greek islands of Rhodes and Corfu

As wilfides spread on the Greek islands of Rhodes, Corfu and Evia, thousands of residents and tourists have been evacuated to safety. Airlines have already begun operating repatriation flights back to the UK, with several expected to arrive on Monday evening.

Corfu and Evia have become the latest islands to issue evacuation orders after a six-day blaze on Rhodes meant 19,000 people had to be removed from villages and hotels. The Rhodes fire service has warned more fires could break out, with temperatures set to reach 45C.

UK travellers in Rhodes and Corfu have been urged to contact their tour operator, while airlines including Jet2 and EasyJet are organising repatriation flights. You can read more about guidance from airlines here.

While the situation is stressful for holidaymakers currently staying on the Greek islands, it’s also concerning for those with holidays booked in the coming weeks. Which? Travel editor Rory Boland told PA what travellers should do if they have a trip planned.

Boland said: “If you’re not due to travel in the next week or two, don’t do anything. I know lots of people will be stressed and worried and they have dependent costs related to whether that holiday goes ahead or not.

“At the moment the tour operators are, correctly, going to be prioritising the people travelling in the next couple of days.”

However, this could change in a few days. He added: “I think the tour operators will start getting their act together over the next couple of days and their emergency systems will kick into place,” Boland said.

“I would hope by the end of the week, it will become easier to get through to the tour operators.”
