Ben Chilwell returned to Chelsea training on Tuesday after missing the entire second half of the season with a ruptured cruciate ligament. The left-back picked up the season-ending injury in a Champions League clash with Juventus as Stamford Bridge back in December and has only now made his return to first-team training.

Chelsea paid £50 million to bring Chilwell to the club from Leicester City during Frank Lampard's final summer in charge and the England international has gone from strength to strength under Thomas Tuchel. He may have made just six Premier League appearances this season but he still mustered three goals in that time.

A huge demand has been placed on Marcos Alonso in his absence with no other options at left wing-back available to Tuchel. The Spaniard has performed admirably, however, and was one of the standout performers during Saturday's FA Cup final defeat to Liverpool.

Back in March, there was excitement after Chilwell was photographed in training with the rest of his teammates, but the manager quickly discounted the possibility of an early return for the England international.

“They did a photo, no? I think they did the photo (on social media) during the one minute he was out! Nobody saw him. We were super excited," Tuchel told his press conference.
