What the Met Office says about the chances of snow this week

The UK enjoyed a spell of glorious, sunny weather last week, with temperatures reaching around 18C in Manchester over the weekend. But it's set to become colder this week, with overnight temperatures dropping to -1C in some places.

In contrast to the warm weather, this week will see rain, fog and cloudy skies. We could see snow in northern parts of the UK, with the Met Office reporting that colder weather will be followed by 'wintry showers.'

Temperatures during the day will halve from the highs reached last week and fall below freezing overnight as a cold front pushes down from the north, reports the Mirror.

In Manchester, temperatures are set to drop dramatically on Wednesday (30 March). It will feel a lot cooler as as average temperatures of around 4C to 5C are forecast. There will also be some rain showers throughout the day.

In Scotland, hill snow is likely to affect some parts of Scotland on Tuesday night, and possibly across the Pennines and Welsh mountains by Wednesday, said forecaster Marco Petagna. He said: "We'll get a taste of most of the seasons within the space of a few days."

A Met Office spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News: "Temperatures have already started to drop for most compared with the last week, but that trend will continue on Tuesday, with a cloudy day for most and a band of rain gradually moving southwards from the north of Scotland heralding a change to colder conditions.

"The band of rain will continue to sink south on Wednesday, with a change to colder conditions sweeping across much of the UK. For those in the north of the UK, especially on the higher ground, this could fall as a wintry mix of
