What Sir Jim Ratcliffe could do this week to show that change is coming at Manchester United
The debate has already started about what Sir Jim Ratcliffe's first move will be when he earns a seat at the table at Manchester United, with his deal to buy around 25% of the club heading for completion.
Should the first priority be redevelopment at Old Trafford, overhauling the football structure, or something else? There's plenty for Ratcliffe to get stuck into when he gets a peek under the hood at United.
But his first job when he assumes his minor shareholding should be to communicate. To learn one of the lessons of 18 years of Glazer rule that have driven supporters to protest and lay out his plans and expectations for United, particularly in relation to how this deal will work.

There is frustration amongst the fan base that an 11-month process hasn't concluded with a full sale of the club and that means protests against the Glazers will continue, perhaps even ramp up around the games with FC Copenhagen and Manchester City next week. The idea of the Glazers staying in control is unpalatable for many and Ratcliffe cosying up to them will raise suspicions of the 70-year-old, despite the local roots of the Failsworth-born billionaire.
There are positives as well to this deal, however. Ratcliffe is invested in United and invested in sport. He cares, which is already something he has that the Glazers don't seem to. He wants what is best for the club and will bring better judgement and a new set of eyes to the running of United.
But to truly win over the doubters, he needs to speak. Whether that is outlining his motivations, revealing some semblance of his
