What Petr Cech told Chelsea squad after Roman Abramovich confirmed sale decision

Thomas Tuchel has revealed what Petr Cech told the playing and coaching staff at Stamford Bridge after Roman Abramovich announced he would be selling Chelsea.

Abramovich’s 19-year spell in charge of the Premier League club is set to come to an end after he put Chelsea up for sale.

The Russian billionaire has previously rejected bids worth £2billion for Chelsea, but his stance has changed amid Russia’s war in Ukraine and the threat of sanctions.

Abramovich confirmed he was selling Chelsea in a statement released shortly before the team’s FA Cup clash with Luton Town on Wednesday night.

Tuchel says Chelsea legend and technical director Cech gave a ‘briefing’ to the players and coaching staff following their 3-2 win at Kenilworth Road.

‘We had a briefing from Petr after the Luton match,’ Tuchel said at his pre-match press conference on Friday morning.

‘He gave everyone in the building a quick brief, explained the situation – it wasn’t too much different to what we already knew.

‘We have to live with this situation and it does not make sense to worry too much. We don’t have a lot of influence, not to say no influence at all, but that was the bottom line.

‘We are allowed to focus on football and we do our best to focus on football. It was not only the team [who Cech spoke to], it was the complete staff.

‘What we try to do is to create an atmosphere where you feel safe once you enter the building, where you feel calm because we do this on a daily basis.

‘This can help now to deal with the situation. There is uncertainty, of course, and all humans – there are 100 people in the building – everybody will feel different about it.
