What Pep Guardiola said which helped develop Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl

Manchester City face Southampton on Sunday in the FA Cup quarter-finals and one piece of wisdom from Pep Guardiola helped develop Ralph Hasenhuttl as a coach.

Back in January, the Saints held City to a draw at St Mary's Stadium. Kyle Walker-Peters gave the hosts the lead before Aymeric Laporte rescued a point for the hosts in the second half.

Southampton have yet to lose to the Blues this season after drawing at the Etihad Stadium 0-0 in September. But speaking before their match earlier this year, Hasenhuttl explained what Guardiola had said which stuck with him.

He explained: "Football is always changing, always developing and when you stand on the same spot all the time you cannot be one-dimensional. You will have no chance to do this job in the toughest league in the world against the toughest teams.

" Pep said one time every other manager makes him better and I can say this is absolutely true. Every fight you take, every match you play makes you better as a manager, you learn and you get better.

"This is what players have to do and what the manager has to do also."

With the Saints firmly routed in mid-table and with an international break on the horizon, it is likely that the hosts will be playing a full-strength side in order to knock City out of the FA Cup. The Blues meanwhile still lead the way in the Premier League and harbour ambitions of a league, Champions League and FA Cup treble.
