What next for Sheffield United in transfer market after Khadra as financial picture made clear

Paul Heckingbottom says he would still like 'a couple more players' but insists he 'has to be careful' with what's left on his budget. The Blades boss had identified six positions to be filled in the summer window and has had success with four of those.

Already through the door are goalkeeper Adam Davies, defenders Anel Ahmedhodzic and Ciaran Clark and midfielder Tommy Doyle. Reda Khadra is also on his radar.

United have been locked in talks with Brighton over a move for the midfielder, with Heckingbottom admitting they are 'not far apart'. Yorkshire Live also understands they are currently active on another target as the Blades boss looks to bring in more attacking options.

He says the plan has not changed when discussions were first held with the board back in January and believes they are not far off having the competitive squad that he wants.

However, the approach for the rest of the window will be one of caution, with Heckingbottom keen to make sure he gets the best out of his remaining budget.

"I would like a couple more players in but whether we can or not we will have to wait and see. Nothing has changed from what we spoke about in January in terms of the squad and positions.

"Everyone is clear on it, everyone knows what we want to do and I think if we do it, with the players we have got in and the players we have got to come back fit we will have a competitive squad with competition in every position.

"We are clear on what we want, we know the positions, we know the type of player and we will keep working to try and get them.

"I would be happy to start the season with what we have got if we have to. If we have to. But we know we are trying for more.
