What Manchester United transfer target Sofyan Amrabat said about his time playing under Erik ten Hag

Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat previously waxed lyrical about Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag having played under the Dutchman at FC Utrecht several years ago.

United, who brought their pre-season tour of the United States to a close with a narrow 3-2 defeat by Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas, are open to signing the Moroccan should they have enough room in their summer budget after player sales. Amrabat has just under a year remaining on his Fiorentina contract, meaning he could be available in a cut-price deal this summer.

There is a general feeling among those associated with United that they would benefit from signing a defensive midfielder to compete with Casemiro and provide cover in the No.6 position. The Reds struggled when the Brazilian was unavailable last season as they did not have a sufficient backup option to provide the same skillset.

Amrabat, who played a key role in Morocco's fairytale run to the semi-finals of the World Cup in Qatar last year, thrives on winning possession back for his team, putting tackles in and dictating play from deep.
