What is the latest news with Michael O’Neill at Stoke City amid Farke and Rooney links?

The former Northern Ireland boss has endured a difficult period with the club and now it looks like his time at the club may be coming to an end.

The Potters are currently 15th in the Championship table with eight games left in the season.

O’Neill’s side have fallen well short of their play-off ambitions despite a promising first half of the season.

There is now a 12-point gap separating the side from a top six finish that is surely insurmountable.

That gap is playing a huge role in the pressure mounting on O’Neill’s future with the club.

According to Belfast Live, Stoke may part ways with O’Neill one year short of the end of his contract.

Victory at the weekend against Millwall ended a nine game run without a win in the league.

Daniel Farke has been linked with the potential vacancy at the Bet365 Stadium, if the club do decide to part ways with O’Neill.

In that report linking the German to Stoke, it also emerged that the club may even retain O’Neill at the club in a different role.

Wayne Rooney and Tony Mowbray have also had their names linked with the Stoke City position.

O’Neill joined the club in 2019 and has a contract with the Potters until 2023, but football is a ruthless business and only successful managers get to see the end of their deals.

It remains to be seen whether O’Neill will accept a role that will keep him at the club should they decide to change managers.

But it is clear that he now has up to eight games to save his job as the manager of the first team.
