'What I love' - Rio Ferdinand has already explained why Man United fans should be excited about siging Mason Mount

Rio Ferdinand believes Mason Mount offers both sides of the game as the Chelsea star appears likely to move to Manchester United this summer.

United have agreed personal terms with the 24-year-old England international ahead of potential transfer this summer. Mount has one year left to go on his deal at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea are keen to obtain a fee for the homegrown star than risk losing him for nothing in 12 months time.

It is understood Mount's representatives, his father Tony and agent Neil Fewings, have held advanced discussions with United. If a transfer fee can be agreed with Chelsea, then it will lift the main obstacle in the deal taking place.

Former United captain Ferdinand discussed Mount as a player last year and what he brings to a team. He pinpointed his ability to provide both sides of the game in attack and defence and believes he can be relied upon as a result of that quality.

Speaking on his Vibe with Five YouTube channel in April 2022, Ferdinand said: "Mount is a mad player. On and off the ball, that’s what I love about him. He gives you both sides of the game.

"Young players watching the game, if you watch Mount, he’s efficient with it, and he can bang, but it’s the work ethic and the positions he takes up defensively.

"That’s why he’ll always play for England because I think you can rely on him."

Mount has won the Champions League and Club World Cup with Chelsea and he was a starter in their three
