What happened to the 15 Manchester United players sold by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Change is on the horizon at Manchester United as they prepare to announce a permanent successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Several months have passed since the popular Norwegian was sacked and replaced on an interim basis by German coach Ralf Rangnick.

Moving forward, Erik ten Hag is the preferred candidate to take over and key figures in the Old Trafford boardroom have already held initial talks with the Ajax manager. A final decision is yet to be made and Ten Hag has other competition for the role including long-term target Mauricio Pochettino.

During his tenure, Solskjaer was widely praised for revamping the United squad. That included sanctioning a number of permanent sales. Here are the 15 players who left on his watch.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson

Good enough to play 14 matches for the first-team, mainly under Louis van Gaal, Borthwick-Jackson headed to Oldham after he was deemed surplus to requirements at United and spent one season there before moving on, yet again. Currently with Burton, the defender has featured 30 times in League One this term.

Sold: August 2020 to Oldham (free transfer)

Mateo Darmian

Darmian spent four years at Old Trafford without really showcasing his ability. Since then, the defender has flitted between Parma and Inter Milan, where he remains competitive with 19 appearances at right-back during what has been a hugely-exciting Serie A title race this season.

Sold: September 2019 to Parma (€2.48million)

Marouane Fellaini

Technically it was Fellaini who was the first shown the door by Solskjaer. Now into the twilight of his career at 34, he is still with SD Luneng (Shandong Taishan) after moving directly to
