What Gaming Engine Will Tomb Raider 2022 use?

Lara Croft is returning on a new adventure, but some things may be different.

We know very little about the upcoming Tomb Raider game in 2022, other than that it is still in early development with Crystal Dynamics taking responsibility for bringing this retro 90s classic into the future. But what we do know is that the British heroine is one of the biggest gaming icons.

In addition to the announcement of the latest instalment, Dallas Dickinson, the game’s franchise director indicated gamers can expect an action-adventure experience with this up and coming RPG game. Dickinson did not give a release date for Tomb Raider at the time.

Alternatively, the new game could return to the original Tomb Raider timeline or even reboot the series with a different plot.

Crystal Dynamics will likely take some time before fans learn more about the new Tomb Raider game, whatever direction it takes.

Since the launch of Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018, the Tomb Raider series has been on hold. However, now fans of the game can look forward to something different as the game is in production and will be running on Unreal Engine 5.

Tomb Raider’s previous games were built on the in-house Crystal Dynamics Foundation Engine.

The Unreal Engine is a free 3D creation software used by game developers to create 3D graphics and realistic environments as well as introduce several innovative features for rendering worlds in stunning high-fidelity.

Crystal Dynamics is incredibly excited about the future of Unreal and how it will help us take our storytelling to the next level. That's why we're proud to announce that our next #tombraider game is being built on Unreal Engine 5! pic.twitter.com/UFMiWzJAZc
