What Erling Haaland did in Man City vs Arsenal has people asking an unnecessary question

Erling Haaland struggled to get going against Manchester City's title rivals Arsenal, but should this be cause for concern as the business end of the season looms?

The Norwegian had minimal impact yesterday, with his performance summed up after 83 minutes when he failed to connect at the back post following a flick-on from Kevin De Bruyne’s corner.

Haaland was clearly frustrated that he failed to convert the chance, prompting co-commentator Gary Neville to say he "looked like someone who had never played football before".

This isn’t the first glaring opportunity Haaland has missed in recent times, most notably in the 3-1 win over Manchester United he missed an open goal from two yards out in the first half. Roy Keane was also less than impressed with his display.

“The levels of his general play are so poor,” Keane said on Sky Sports. “Laying stuff off, headers, whatever it might be… in front of goal he is the best in the world but his general play for such a player is so poor.”

Pep Guardiola’s side dominated possession throughout the game but registered just one shot on target, with Haaland given little to feed off in the final third as City searched for the winner.

Haaland has failed to score in all three outings against the Gunners this season, which is proving to be a challenge despite his usual potency in front of goal. The introduction of Jeremy Doku in the second half added urgency to the City attack, even though he was unable to bring Haaland into the game as Arsenal defended deep and thwarted potential threats.
