What Eddie Howe would love to replicate from Pep Guardiola's Man City at Newcastle United

Pep Guardiola incredibly criticised his Manchester City team the last time Newcastle United faced them in the Premier League - despite a 4-0 win for the ex-Barcelona boss at St James' Park last December.

On a miserable day Guardiola complained about the "lack of rhythm" from his team but Newcastle have progressed emphatically since that day. They barely laid a glove on Man City after being denied a clear penalty when Ederson took out Ryan Fraser but Howe will believe his team can pose more of a threat this time around.

Howe is an admirer of Guardiola and long-term would love to build a side like City and says he will try to replicate some elements of their play.

Howe said: "I have definitely have studied his philosophy and watched his team intently. I have come up against him many times. I think he's an incredible manager, there are a lot of teams you can watch and take things from. Man City are definitely one of those.

"You look at them and you are inspired by them. Some of the football they have played, and in a totally different way to Liverpool, is completely controlled and they have more patience. They are also deadly and ruthless when they need to be. There is a huge amount to admire from their team."
