What Dean Henderson has said about his Man United future amid David De Gea new contract plans

Dean Henderson has been clear about his career hopes at Manchester United and this week will have taken note of David de Gea's latest interview.

United's first-choice goalkeeper has enjoyed an impressive season, arguably the standout during a tough campaign for many at Old Trafford, pulling off a number of world-class saves to keep United in the race for Champions League qualification.

De Gea on Monday told UEFA that he does not see his future away from United, even beyond 2023 when his contract expires.

Henderson, meanwhile, has struggled for game time as the Red Devils' understudy.

The former Sheffield United loanee has made just three starts this season - none of which have come in the Premier League - and was denied a loan move away from Old Trafford during January.

Speaking back in October, after overcoming Covid which hampered his preparations for the season, the 24-year-old spoke openly about his career.

"It’s been a tough few months for me but to come back in now, amongst it and feeling at full power is a great feeling,’ said Henderson.

"It obviously stopped me at the start of the season and I was unfortunate I got ill but, at the end of the day, you’ve got to take it on the chin and come back better than ever.

"I feel really good now and just want to get out there and prove my worth.

"I haven’t been my best in the Manchester United shirt yet. I feel good, really good, now and it’s about building those games up, game after game.

"Hopefully I’ll get my opportunity and I’ll build on it and be the best you’ve seen me in a United shirt."
