What Dan Gore's Manchester United coaches have said about youngster impressing in pre-season

Dan Gore is a 'proper footballer' who can add strong leadership qualities to Manchester United's team, according to his academy coaches.

The midfielder won the Denzil Haroun Reserve-Team Player of the Year award for 2022/23 and has been handed a chance to impress manager Erik ten Hag already in pre-season. It's an opportunity Gore has grasped with both hands, as he provided an excellent assist for Donny van de Beek to score the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win over Lyon at Murrayfield, Edinburgh, on Saturday.

Gore admitted following the game that he is trying to force his way into Ten Hag's plans ahead of the new season. "That is the thought," Gore said. "It is every young lad's dream to try and get in the Man United team and I think that should be the aim for everyone.

"As long as you're good enough and you put the hard work in, you've seen that he [Ten Hag] gives chances." It's a chance that has been a long time coming for Gore, who has impressed at every level he's played at so far for United.

Former U21 manager Mark Dempsey, who moved into a new role earlier this week with additional responsibilities in working with players out on loan and player recruitment, praised the 18-year-old following the U21s draw with Arsenal in the Premier League 2 in April.
