What Bolton Wanderers must do to get to level of Wigan Athletic, Sheffield Wednesday & Rotherham

Ian Evatt feels Bolton Wanderers need to do a mixture of everything to get to the level of the top sides in League One as they aim for promotion out of the division next season.

Wanderers sit 10th in the third tier of English football which is a good return to the division having been promoted out of League Two last season.

Though it has been a positive campaign, a late charge for the play-offs faded away and Wanderers are 12 points from the top six and 25 off the division's summit, led by Wigan Athletic.

Evatt feels that MK Dons, Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday are the other top sides in the division, along with the Latics.

Evatt pinpointed the similarities in the Millers, Owls and Latics in terms of their experience and physical qualities which sets them apart and the need for Wanderers to manage encounters against the top sides.

The Bolton boss uses the analogy of when UFC star Conor McGregor fought legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather in the ring and how it was not his primary habitat.

And he feels Wanderers must manage opposition strengths better as well as bring their positives to table more in a bid to keep moving forwards.

He said: "I think what we’ve learnt from the best teams currently in this league which other than MK Dons really are Rotherham, Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday, those types, and they’re all quite similar in terms of experience.

“They’ve got lots of experience, lots of nous, lots of physicality, strong teams if you look at them in the kits and in their shirts, they’re all big strong lads, and we need to manage those games better.
