'What are you talking about': Moment shirtless Gavin Plumb feigns ignorance as he's arrested for Holly Willoughby plot

Security guard Gavin Plumb will spend at least 16 years behind bars for hatching a "depraved and vile" plan to kidnap, rape and murder TV star Holly Willoughby.

At a sentencing hearing today, judge Mr Justice Edward Murray said he had "no doubt" Plumb would have carried out his sickening plans if he had "genuinely found one or more accomplices" willing to join him. The court heard how Plumb had discussed his plans with two men on the internet, one of whom was actually an undercover police officer.

The judge said Plumb had "an unhealthy sexual obsession" with Ms Willoughby, the former presenter of ITV's This Morning. He said Plumb also "intended to harm her husband and her children" as part of his plans.

During the trial, jurors were shown body-worn police video footage of the moment Plumb was arrested at his home in Harlow, Essex. The 37-year-old was shirtless when officers forced open his front door and burst into his home on October 4 last year.

A police officer handcuffed Plumb, who was in a bedroom in the property, within moments of them entering. Plumb exclaimed “what are you talking about”, in the footage played to Chelmsford Crown Court, later adding: “Please explain to me what the hell is going on.”

When told he was under arrest on suspicion of conspiracy to kidnap, Plumb said “who?” and was told it was Ms Willoughby. He asked “OK, where’s that from?” and was told by an officer “that will be explained to you in custody”.

He later stated to officers, in the footage from October 4 last year: “I’m not gonna lie, she is a fantasy of mine.”
