Wet Leg and The Regrettes pull out of Foals support slot hours before sold out Manchester show

Both of the support bands due to perform at tonight's sold out Foals gig at Castlefield Bowl have pulled out - after members of each band came down with Covid.

Hotly-tipped band Wet Leg and American indie band The Regrettes both performed at Glastonbury over the weekend and were due to support Foals in Manchester on Wednesday night.

But with just hours before the doors opened to thousands of fans, both bands issued statements on their Twitter to confirm the sad news that they would be unable to attend.

LA-based band The Regrettes said on Twitter: "awh man sad day. we will not be able to play with @foals tonight in manchester due to a few of us testing positive for covid. THIS SUCKS"

Wet Leg, who performed to rave reviews at Glastonbury, said on Twitter: "Very sad to say we aren’t gonna be able to play the @foals show in Manchester tonight cause one of our lovely band has Covid. Have a fun night and see you soon."

Foals announced on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon that support would instead come from Leeds-based rock band Yard Act at the gig. The four-piece, consisting of James Smith, Ryan Needham, Sam Shjipstone and Jay Russell, released their debut album 'The Overload' in January.

The LP climbed to number two on the UK albums chart. Over the weekend, the indie act packed out the William's Green tent at Glastonbury.

Tonight's sell-out show is part of the Sounds of the City series at Castlefield Bowl over the next two weeks.
