West Lothian boxing club celebrates double success on the national stage

Two teenage boxing stars have shown they can mix it with the best in the country after scooping medals at the Scottish Novice Championships.

Broxburn Boxing Club duo Ciaran Burns and Aiden Glowienko were in the medals at the event in Motherwell with Ciaran claiming silver in the 43kg aged 13 category with team-mate Aiden going one better by winning the gold in the 59kg category in the same age group.

A delighted Aiden secured second and third round stoppages on his way to the title and admitted the nerves soon disappeared once he was in the ring.

He commented: “I’m absolutely delighted to have won the gold medal.

“To be honest I was a wee bit nervous before the fights but as soon as you get in the ring that all goes away and you’re just concentrating on the fight.

“I felt that I settled in really well and enjoyed the experience. I’m looking forward to the club championships next month and hopefully I can just keep improving.”

Ciaran, who only took up the sport around six months ago, said he ‘loved’ the experience and has his eyes on the Scottish Championships in the summer.

He commented: “It was a brilliant experience and I loved it. I’m thrilled to have got the silver medal and enjoyed the whole experience of getting out there in competition.

“I felt I did really well and on another day could have got the gold but I’m thrilled to have won a medal at such a big event.”
