West Lothian archer falls just short in bid for World Championship title
Addiewell’s Nathan Macqueen fell just short of being crowned World Para Archery champion after he suffered defeat in the final in the Czech Republic.
The 32-year-old was in fine form all tournament but was edged out by just two points in the final against Italy’s Matteo Bonacina.
Macqueen entered the tournament in Pilsen sitting eighth in the world rankings and stayed true to that in the qualifying event - where he finished in eighth place.
That allowed him a bye into the third round of the competition where wins over Abbas Khadim of Egypt, France’s Maxime Geurin and top qualified Ai Xin Liang of China saw his secure a semi-final berth.
There he produced a fine display to defeat Australia’s Jonathon Milne 143-38 to set up the clash with Bonacina, where he ultimately fell narrowly short.
A fine consolation, however, is that the silver medal has all but guaranteed him a third straight Paralympic Games, which are held in Paris next year.
