West Ham 'will rue' major transfer decision after loss to Tottenham

West Ham will rue not bringing in a striker in January after their Champions League hopes took a massive hit over the weekend, claims Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge.

David Moyes’ side lost 3-1 against their London rivals Tottenham, leaving them with a lot of work to do in the race for the top four.

Good. While they did lose that game against Spurs, West Ham are still in contention to secure Champions League qualification at the end of the season, although it will be a tricky task.

Currently, the Hammers are in seventh place, just six points behind Arsenal, who occupy that final Champions League spot. However, Mikel Arteta’s men have played two games less, while Tottenham also have a game in hand, which is why that defeat was so damaging.

West Ham’s European campaign is also going well, with the east London club making it to the quarter-finals of the Europa League after recently knocking out Sevilla in the previous round.

Given that West Ham have been competing on multiple fronts this term, it is a surprise that Moyes did not end up signing a new No.9 in January.

Following their London derby defeat to Tottenham and failure to strengthen up front, Bridge thinks that West Ham are out of the hunt for a top-four finish.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Sky Sports reporter said: “I think West Ham are out of it now, looking at their fixtures. I just feel like maybe they’ll rue not bringing in another striker.”

They have got to, as Michail Antonio is still the only recognised No.9 in their squad.

In regards to who the Hammers could target, they did try to sign Benfica’s Darwin Nunez and Atalanta’s Duvan Zapata in the winter window, so perhaps those are two names
