West Ham: 'Whispers' £80k-a-week star 'could now be dropped' at London Stadium

West Ham shouldn’t drop Jarrod Bowen for today’s game with Wolves, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The £80,000 per-week star has made a poor start to the season, but Jones thinks it’s “mad” that his place in David Moyes’ side might be under threat.

Bowen was named as West Ham’s Player of the Year last term in what proved a memorable season on a club and personal note.

He registered 31 goal contributions as the Hammers qualified for Europe once again and reached the Europa League semi-finals.

But Bowen has struggled to get up and running in 2022-2023 and is yet to deliver a single goal or assist in seven Premier League outings.

He has scored twice in the Europa Conference League, yet the Hammers need him to show the same sort of form to improve their hopes of climbing away from the relegation-zone.

Moyes’ side return to top-flight action this afternoon and can climb out of the bottom-three if they record a first home win of the season against Wolves.

Despite Bowen’s testing start to the campaign, Jones doesn’t think he should be dropped from the side and reckons the two-week break could end up benefitting West Ham.

He told GIVEMESPORT “I do think this next game is a big one for him.

“I mean, there’s been some whispers about whether he should be dropped for this game, which is mad really when you consider how important he has been in West Ham’s rise.

“He certainly needs some confidence right now, maybe the break from playing has been good timing for West Ham, though, and they can come again now after the break.”
