West Ham United's London Stadium to host National League play off final - and fans aren't happy

West Ham United's London Stadium has been chosen as the host venue for this season's National League play off final. With Wembley Stadium unavailable due to the Women's European Championship taking place, the June 5 showpiece had to be hosted elsewhere.

Many supporters are disappointed with the choice of venue, given that all of the current top seven teams in the league are based more than 130 miles away from the former Olympic Stadium. Wrexham AFC could be involved in the match, should they miss out on automatic promotion and progress to the final.

It may also provide a dilemma for many fans with the Wales national team involved in their crucial World Cup play off match on the same day. Wrexham will already be making the trip to London for the FA Trophy final on Sunday, May 22 and could now face another trip to the English capital city.

The teams currently in the play off positions are Wrexham, Halifax Town, Solihull Moors, Chesterfield, Grimsby Town and Notts County. Many Wrexham AFC supporters have been having their say on the decision via social media.

Josh Jones said: "If it’s not going to be held at Wembley and the two finalists are from the north, it should be in a neutral stadium up north. Pathetic making both sets of fans travel all that way on a Sunday."

Former Sky Sports commentator and Wrexham fan Bryn Law said: "Having been a few times now, whoever gets there, I’d say this is not a great choice. Jubilee weekend as well so transport/accommodation will be premium price."
