West Ham transfer window update as David Moyes waits over Lingard, Caleta-Car and Philipps deals

The transfer window closes at 11:00pm on January 31 leaving West Ham just 132 hours to seal any new signings to bolster their squad for the remainder of the season.

The window opened on January 1 and the Hammers are yet to make any signings with their only activity being to recall loan players and send promising youngster Conor Coventry to MK Dons for the remainder of the season.

Manager David Moyes is adamant that he and the club are working on deals and that the lack of singings is not for the want of trying.

"We have been trying for a couple of years to add a striker to the group but we have not been able to. We have had quite a few offers for players at different times that have not been accepted or we could not get or [they] have been too expensive," he said.

"So it is not for the want of trying and not like we are not seeing the same things that others are seeing. It is trying to get in players that I think can help us and make a difference but we will continue trying to look. With a week or so to go [in the transfer window] we will keep looking."

He added: "I think that we will try hard to make them [signings] but I cannot say one way or the other, we will see. We will work hard to add to what we have got but I can't give any guarantees that will happen."

It is clear from Moyes' words that a striker is the priority and understand that the Hammers remain keen on strengthening their backline as well.

The two names in defence that West Ham are interested in are Duje Caleta-Car and Nat Philipps. With no Premier League experience, the Hammers would prefer a loan deal with Marseille for Caleta-Car before making a final decision on the deal in the summer.

This could be the sticking point on the deal with Marseille
