West Ham told to seal 'no brainer' transfer deal involving England star

Signing Jesse Lingard on a free transfer this summer should be a “no-brainer” for West Ham, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The £18m-rated attacker will become a free agent when his contract expires in June, and the Hammers have been keen on bringing him back to the London Stadium since his loan spell last season.

It’s been a frustrating campaign for the 32-cap England international, who was denied a January move away from Old Trafford and has been made to sit on the bench for the majority of the season.

Lingard was handed just his second Premier League start this term against Norwich City last weekend, but he only lasted 62 minutes despite performing well in the 3-2 victory.

He managed the second-most shots on target behind Cristiano Ronaldo and chipped in with the most key passes (4), while his passing success rate was an impressive 89.8 percent, according to WhoScored.

Despite being given a rare run out by Ralf Rangnick, Lingard’s United future remains in serious doubt and the Hammers are likely to still be interested in his services ahead of potentially another campaign in Europe.

And with Lingard available to sign for nothing, providing he doesn’t put pen to paper on a new Red Devils contract, O’Rourke reckons that returning to West Ham would be an excellent move for both parties.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Jesse Lingard we know had a great season on loan from Manchester United.

“A lot of people expected that move to happen last year, but if you can get Jesse Lingard on a free transfer it would be a no-brainer and I think it would be a move that would suit him as well.”
