West Ham United have been linked with a move for FC Porto and Nigeria left-back Zaidu Sanusi ahead of the January transfer window.

According to TEAMtalk, West Ham are working hard to find a new left-back ahead of the opening of the winter.

Aaron Cresswell was close to leaving the Hammers in the summer whilst they also have former Chelsea defender Emerson at the London Stadium.

Teamtalk reported that Hammers scouts have been working hard on a number of potential options and one of those who has impressed is Sanusi.

The Nigerian international, who has been with Porto since 2020, has been watched closely by West Ham including technical director Tim Steidten.

It is believed Steidten has appreciated the player for a long time.

Sanusi has just returned to action following injury but has featured in Porto’s last two games with representatives of West Ham understood to be present.

The 26-year-old has scored seven times in 118 games for Porto having previously played for lesser-known Portuguese club Santa Clara.

He has also won 15 caps for Nigeria, having made his debut for his country back in 2020.

He missed the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe due to injury.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will look forward to having Sanusi for the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire.

However, he will have to battle for Super Eagles left-back position with the likes of Jamilu Collins, Bruno Onyemaechi and Ola Aina, who sometimes play the role.
