West Ham latest news: Irons' January transfer strategy could 'come back to haunt them'

Journalist Pete O’Rourke thinks West Ham could live to regret not making any signings in the January transfer window.

The Irons have had a strong campaign thus far, both domestically and in Europe, but they failed to add to their squad last month.

West Ham were linked with a number of players last month as they looked to build on their positive start to the season.

The club showed an interest in Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car, while they were also reportedly trying to bring in another striker to support Michail Antonio, with names such as Darwin Nunez and Duvan Zapata being mentioned as potential targets.

However, none of these players ended up coming through the door, leaving David Moyes to continue to rely on the same crop of players that he started the transfer window with.

With West Ham still competing on three fronts heading into the final months of the season, O’Rourke fears that the team could run out of steam, particularly if they start to pick up injuries to key players.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “West Ham have got a busy schedule. They’re trying to finish in the top four, they’ve got European football coming up as well, so it’s going to take a lot out of the West Ham squad.

“If they get injuries, it could really come back to haunt them, not bringing in new signings in the January window.”

It could turn out to be a huge error by Moyes, as well as the club’s board, which is headed by David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady.

Right now, fourth spot looks to be up for grabs as Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham have all stuttered their way through their respective campaigns.

West Ham have shown that they can compete with these clubs over the past six months, but Moyes has not been able to rotate his squad
