'West Ham fans might not believe' big Moyes and GSB claim

West Ham United and David Moyes are ‘trying to be ambitious’ in the transfer market, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Hammers failed to add any new acquisitions to David Moyes’ first-team squad during the January transfer window, much to the frustration of large sections of their fan base.

Under the tutelage of Moyes, West Ham have enjoyed a hugely successful 18 months, finishing in sixth position last season while battling for a top-four finish this time around.

The capital club are also enjoying some success across the continent and are in with a chance of progressing to the quarter-finals of the Europa League after narrowly losing 1-0 to Sevilla away from home in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

However, West Ham’s outlook could perhaps be even rosier if they had managed to bring in some new signings during the winter.

Since Sebastien Haller departed for Ajax back in January 2021, Michail Antonio has been the east London outfit’s only recognised striker, and Angelo Ogbonna’s season-ending injury left them light on numbers and quality at centre-back.

As a result, West Ham were linked to the likes of Attila Szalai, Duje Caleta-Car and Darwin Nunez, with a reported £60 million bid being rejected by Benfica for the Uruguay international.

Yet Moyes was forced to contend with the resources already at his disposal after a hollow attempt to prise Leeds United pair Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha away from Elland Road on Deadline Day also failed.
