West Ham fans 'might be disappointed' over £51m 'game-changer' at London Stadium

West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta is unlikely to be an immediate game-changer at the London Stadium and may take time to adapt to David Moyes’ style of play, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Brazilian arrived in east London on a club-record transfer of £51 million in the summer window but may not make a big impact straight away.

The Hammers splashed out on the signing of Paqueta in the final days of the transfer period, signing the 25-year-old from Lyon and making him their most expensive signing, surpassing Sebastien Haller.

He has signed a five-year deal and has already made two appearances for the club, coming on as a substitute against Tottenham before being handed a start away to Chelsea.

Paqueta joined seven other faces through the door at West Ham this summer as over £160 million was spent on recruitment.

Gianluca Scamacca was signed from Sassuolo to bolster the striking options, while Nayef Aguerd, Thilo Kehrer and Emerson will add depth in defence.

Maxwel Cornet and Flynn Downes complete the transfer roundup in what was a busy few months for the club.

Brown says that the Brazil international may disappoint those expecting him to have an immediate impact at West Ham.

The journalist says that it is rare for new signings to burst onto the scene for Moyes and that allowing him to adapt to a new style of play will be essential.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “I think anyone who’s expecting Paqueta to be a massive game-changer for West Ham, because of the fee they paid, might be disappointed. It’s unusual for anyone David Moyes signs to come in and have a massive impact immediately. He’s playing in a new league for a team that plays a different system. I think it’s going to take him a while to get used to
