West Ham emerge as ‘favourites’ to land 22-goal Championship striker ahead of Sevilla

West Ham are the ‘favourites’ to sign Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz this summer, according to reports.

The 23-year-old has been excellent for his side this campaign, scoring 22 goals in 37 Championship appearances.

Rovers were in a strong position to return to the Premier League this season but had their promotion push derailed after Brereton Diaz suffered an injury against West Brom in February.

He missed seven games in a row, returning with Blackburn sat seventh in the Championship – four places below where they were going into the February draw against the Baggies.

Brereton Diaz is out of contract at the end of this season but there is the option for a further year, as per Transfermarkt.

The Chile international is attracting interest from the Premier League and La Liga, with West Ham and Sevilla competing to sign him, according to Fichajes (via Sport Witness).

David Moyes’ side are apparently the ‘favourites’ to land the striker despite Sevilla sporting director, Monchi, targeting Brereton Diaz ‘for months’.

The Hammers bounced back from their Europa League exit against Eintracht Frankfurt with a convincing 4-0 victory at Norwich City on Sunday.
