West Ham defender Ben Johnson sends warning to Manchester United ahead of FA Cup clash

West Ham defender Ben Johnson has insisted the Hammers are desperate to defeat Manchester United in the FA Cup on Wednesday night after struggling at Old Trafford in recent seasons.

United - who defeated Newcastle 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday - welcome David Moyes' side to Old Trafford for their FA Cup fifth round tie. The Reds cruised past Reading in the last round of the competition, securing a 3-1 home victory over the Championship side.

Erik ten Hag's side will be looking to progress in the FA Cup as they target more success in the domestic cup competitions this season. United are the only English side still competing on all four fronts - with the quadruple still on the cards for the recently-crowned Carabao Cup champions.

The Reds have knocked West Ham out of the FA Cup four times since the year 2000 and six times in total since the conception of the tournament. The Hammers have won just once again United in the past eight matches, which came in the League Cup in 2021.

With Moyes' men having largely struggled at Old Trafford in recent campaigns, Johnson is keen for West Ham to overcome United and embark on a cup run.

"We’ve got a big game on Wednesday and we want to go to Old Trafford, and win because we’ve been there a few times over the last few years and not quite got the win in the FA Cup or the three points in the league, so somehow we definitely want to win and get through and really go on a decent cup run," he told West Ham's official website.

"We’ve got two opportunities in the Europa Conference League and the FA Cup, so that’s something we want to do.”
