West Ham could look to bring ex-academy star back to London Stadium

West Ham United are ‘scouting’ Anderlecht star Josh Cullen and mulling over whether to seal his return to the London Stadium, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Hammers boss David Moyes failed to welcome any reinforcements to the club during the winter window, but the summer will give him another opportunity to lure fresh faces to east London.

Cullen only left West Ham for Belgian giants Anderlecht in 2020, but it appears a return to his former club could already be on the cards.

That is because, according to TEAMtalk, the Hammers have been keeping abreast of his development ahead of a potential return to London less than two years on from his £500,000 departure.

The report suggests Cullen has become one of the most dominant midfielders in the Belgian top flight, leaving Anderlecht facing a battle to retain his services.

However, West Ham are not Cullen’s only suitors as Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace, Southampton, Leeds United, Burnley and Norwich City – along with Championship outfits Fulham and Sheffield United – are also mulling over whether to seal his return to England.

It comes after Cullen appeared to claim he would not be heading back to West Ham in the not-too-distant future, with the central midfielder insisting his previous spell is ‘a closed chapter’ in his career despite being a lifelong fan of the Hammers.

Jones understands that West Ham boss Moyes has been tracking Cullen despite giving the go-ahead for him to leave the London Stadium less than 24 months ago.

The transfer insider believes a return to familiar surroundings may not be outside the realms of possibility for the Anderlecht ace.
