West Ham: £58.5m attacking duo 'remain on Irons' radar'

West Ham United will be ‘continuing to keep tabs’ on Benfica striker Darwin Nunez and Atalanta forward Duvan Zapata, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Hammers are believed to be in the market for a new goalscorer and previously failed in their attempts to sign the South American sensations during the January transfer window.

According to the Evening Standard, West Ham had a club-record bid of £60 million turned down by Benfica for Nunez during the winter, with £10m of that fee owed in potential add-ons.

It was claimed that the Uruguay international is holding out for a move to a side in the Champions League, making the task of enticing him to the London Stadium an extremely difficult one.

And a subsequent report by Sky Sports revealed that West Ham then turned their attention to Zapata as David Moyes desperately attempted to bolster his depleted attacking options on Deadline Day.

However, the capital club were also unable to secure a deal for the 30-year-old despite submitting a deal sheet to the Premier League, leaving Moyes empty-handed.

The failed moves for Nunez – who is valued at £28.8m – and Zapata encapsulated a frustrating month for West Ham, who were unable to add any new acquisitions to their first-team squad as they continue to fight for a top-four finish.

Despite their unsuccessful attempts to secure the services of Nunez and Zapata, who is valued at £29.7m, O’Rourke believes they will both ‘remain on West Ham’s radar’ ahead of the upcoming summer window.
