West Ham: £120k-a-week star 'will stay' at London Stadium

West Ham United have been tipped to sign goalkeeper Alphonse Areola on a permanent deal, although there is a ‘question mark’ over the move, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The 29-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell at the London Stadium throughout 2021/22 and now appears set to complete a transfer from parent club Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Areola joined the Hammers on a temporary basis in July following a productive 12-month stint with Fulham, despite the fact he was unable to prevent their relegation from the Premier League.

And transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that West Ham’s hierarchy are now ‘prepared to pay’ the €9 million (£7.6m) option to buy clause for the shot-stopper that was agreed with PSG.

Romano states that ‘new direct contact’ will take place between the capital club and Areola’s representatives imminently in an attempt to finalise the deal.

If terms can be agreed between the relevant parties, then it would see the France international move away from his boyhood club after making 107 senior appearances for them in all competitions.

The PSG academy graduate, who has been on loan away from the Parc des Princes for the last six seasons, only has one year left on his current contract.

Therefore, a deal is likely to be agreed between the two clubs, but Brown doubts that David Moyes sees Areola as his number one keeper and believes that may cause an issue with the player.
