West Brom player agreement reached as midfielder departs

West Brom confirmed last night that Robert Snodgrass had left the club after his contract was mutually terminated.

The midfielder joined Albion in January last year when they were a Premier League side, and he stuck around following relegation to the second tier.

After a tough start under new boss Valerien Ismael, Snodgrass managed to force his way into the XI but he managed to make just six appearances before being frozen out following a dispute with the manager.

With the Scotsman no longer in Ismael’s plans, a January exit seemed likely but nothing was agreed before the deadline. As a result, the club announced last night that they had come to an agreement with the player that will allow him to leave.

With Snodgrass a free agent, he is now free to sign for another club outside the of the transfer window, although there is no suggestion that a move elsewhere is imminent at the moment.

The former Aston Villa man departs having played just 14 league games for the Baggies.

The verdict

The pressure is building on Ismael but the fact Albion have made this decision suggests they are still backing the boss.

If that’s the case, then you have to say this is the right decision because Snodgrass was clearly not going to play under the Frenchman, so an exit suits the player and the club.

Of course, many fans will say it’s the wrong decision to keep the manager but they will surely wish Snodgrass well who gave his all in a West Brom shirt even if he didn’t make the impact he would’ve wanted.
