West Brom 'in talks' with striker over transfer after Steve Bruce admission

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly “in talks” with Lewis Grabban over a move to the Hawthorns.

Steve Bruce ’s side finally appeared to get their season properly up and running with a 5-2 win over Hull City on Saturday. After an own goal from Callum Elder opened the scoring, goals from John Swift, Darnell Furlong, Karlan Grant and Dara O’Shea followed in an emphatic win for Albion .

The club have been short of striking options after losing Daryl Dike to a thigh injury. As a result, Bruce has had to rely on Grant to lead the line, with only Callum Robinson as a further option, after Kenneth Zohore also suffered an injury setback.

Football League World has reported that Lewis Grabban is being targeted by the club. The experienced 34-year-old captained Nottingham Forest to promotion last season, scoring 12 goals in 32 games, but is a free agent after his contract at the City Ground expired this summer.

The report states that West Brom are “in talks” with Grabban, who has twice been promoted from the Championship and has Premier League experience with both Norwich and Bournemouth. Grabban has been consistently prolific in the division, scoring 54 goals and providing 10 assists in 144 games for Forest.

Speaking about his striker search on Friday, Bruce said : "Obviously we're in a market where we haven't got millions to spend, we have to be creative and we have to find something in the loan market and free market, and it has its restrictions. I've known that all summer. It was a case of juggling and balancing the books, trying to get it right and trying to improve the team, too.
