West Brom ‘definitely looking at’ 55 y/o manager at Hawthorns

West Bromwich Albion are ‘definitely looking’ at former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Baggies have just sacked ex-boss Steve Bruce following a hugely disappointing start to the current campaign and could make a move for the highly-regarded 55-year-old.

Bruce was dismissed from his role in the Hawthorns dugout following a run of just one win in their opening 13 Championship matches this season, leaving them marooned in the relegation zone.

Backroom staff Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence and Alex Bruce have also left the Midlands outfit as a new era is set to be ushered into the club imminently.

The Mirror claim that Carlos Corberan, Sean Dyche, Gary Rowett and Wilder are on the West Brom hierarchy’s shortlist, while David Wagner is unavailable due to his terms of exit from Young Boys.

Wilder was recently relieved of his duties at Middlesbrough following an unsuccessful 11-month stint but previously guided the Blades back to the top-flight in 2018/19.

Only time will tell if West Brom opt for the 55-year-old tactician over the other candidates on their radar, but he will surely be an enticing prospect, especially as he is a free agent.

West Brom are without a win in their last eight league games with the final straw for Bruce coming as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Luton Town over the weekend.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “They are definitely looking at Chris Wilder, he’s been spoken about quite seriously.”
